Ice Cube’s ‘Last Friday’ has found its director.

Lawrence Lamont, who helmed Keke Palmer and SZA’s ‘One of Them Days’, will take charge of the long-awaited fourth installment.

The appointment advances the project after Cube and Mike Epps confirmed it was moving forward earlier this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lamont has boarded the New Line comedy, which Cube wrote and will produce and star in.

In a statement shared alongside the announcement, the filmmaker reflected on growing up with the original movie and its impact on Black cinema. He added:

“I hope to honor everything that made these films special while bringing my own vision, heart, and perspective to the story.”

Lamont arrives with a recent buddy-comedy success under his belt. His feature debut, ‘One of Them Days,’ followed two Los Angeles roommates racing to replace their missing rent money and subsequently secured a sequel of its own.

The original ‘Friday’ opened in 1995, followed by ‘Next Friday’ in 2000 and ‘Friday After Next’ in 2002.

Earlier discussions about Chris Tucker returning as Smokey remain separate from this director announcement. His participation should not yet be treated as confirmed.
