Drake has one fewer legal battle on his hands.

For, a producer-songwriter has dropped his copyright infringement lawsuit against the rapper just 11 days after filing it.

Aviel Calev Hirschfield filed a notice in federal court on Tuesday (October 27), withdrawing his complaint without explanation. The case was dropped “without prejudice,” leaving him free to refile it later.

Hirschfield filed the lawsuit on October 16, alleging that Drake copied the exact chorus he had written for him in January over a beat by ‘Janice STFU’ producers FnZ. He claimed he sent a reference track to the duo and other producers in the star’s inner circle but received no response.

According to the complaint, hearing ‘Janice STFU’ on Drake’s ‘Iceman’ album in May brought a surprise: the chorus he claimed to have written was there, but his credit was not. His team subsequently contacted the rapper’s representatives and supplied “stems” from his original recording to support his claim.

Drake’s camp vehemently denied the allegations at the time, stating:

“These allegations are categorically, unequivocally, and completely denied. There is not one iota of truth to these accusations.”

They added:

“Drake wrote this song and has no connection or knowledge of this person full stop.”

The withdrawal brings the case to a close for now, with no court ruling on the underlying allegations.
