Constance Hages, 31, was identified as the woman killed when gunfire erupted inside a crowded Halloween store. Police believe the shooting was targeted, but no arrests have been announced.

Authorities identified the woman killed as 31-year-old Constance Hages, whose family told investigators she was pregnant at the time of her death. Hages was also the mother of four children, according to SFGATE.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 at the Spirit Halloween store inside Solano Town Center in Fairfield, approximately 40 miles southwest of Sacramento.

According to KCRA, police arrived to find seven people suffering from gunshot wounds. Hages died from her injuries, while six male victims were transported to area hospitals.

Three of those victims, ages 16, 19 and 32, remained in critical condition as of Saturday. A fourth victim, 23, was listed in critical but stable condition. Two other men, ages 19 and 43, were treated for gunshot wounds and released.

Fairfield police believe the violence stemmed from a targeted incident involving a single suspect inside the store. However, investigators have not publicly identified the intended target or announced an arrest.

As families prepared for Halloween celebrations, witnesses described a terrifying scene inside the shopping center.

Miena Davis, who was shopping at Spirit Halloween, told KCRA she heard what sounded like popping noises shortly after entering the store. When the sounds continued, shoppers began scrambling to escape.

“It was immediate panic,” Davis recalled. “You heard a mom crying out for their child. And it just was so surreal.”

Davis said some shoppers forced open a gate leading into another part of the mall to get away from the gunfire.

Video obtained by KCRA captured shoppers crouching for cover as gunshots rang out. One person could be heard repeatedly pleading for the violence to stop.

The shooting prompted a significant law enforcement response, with the FBI’s Sacramento office deploying personnel to assist Fairfield police with their investigation.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence as they work to identify the person responsible.

The violence also cast a shadow over Halloween festivities in Fairfield. Solano Town Center canceled its planned trick-or-treating event Saturday, although the shopping center reopened.

Fairfield Mayor Rick Vaccaro urged residents to support one another in the aftermath of the shooting.

“Fairfield’s greatest strength is how we all look out for each other,” Vaccaro said in remarks reported by NBC Bay Area.

For Hages’ family, the tragedy comes with the devastating loss of a loved one whose pregnancy was reported to investigators by relatives. Authorities said the Solano County coroner would confirm that information.

As the investigation continues, police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Fairfield Police Department at 707-428-7600 or email [email protected].
