In a cover story with Women’s Health, the entertainer reveals that she felt isolated and paranoid when the sexual harassment and assault lawsuits against her happened. She says:
“I got very paranoid and isolated. I used to walk into glam and be like, ‘Oh, let me tell you about this crazy s— that happened last night!’ I couldn’t do that anymore. I pushed everyone away. I wasn’t even talking to my therapist. I wasn’t present. I wasn’t open. I wasn’t myself anymore.’
The ‘Rumors’ songstress even reached a breaking point, and at one point got tired of living. She states:
“It got to the point where I was like, ‘I could die.’ I never attempted to kill myself or thought about it, but I did think, If everyone hates you and thinks you’re a terrible person, then what’s the point?.”
When the star attended Beyonce‘s Renaissance World Tour concert, she says she felt some kind of hope:
“It made me feel like, wow, maybe I don’t want to die. Life is worth living. That was the kick-starter to me being like, ‘Okay, Melissa, get your ass in gear and take your f—— life back.”
Three of the singer’s former backup dancers, Crystal Williams, Arianna Davis, and Noelle Rodriguez, filed lawsuits against her back in August 2023.
Last month, the Houston native appealed to have the judge toss out the lawsuit because it “attacks” her First Amendment right of free speech.
As of writing, the claims including an allegation of fat shaming was thrown out, but the case is still moving forward. The dancers’ lawyer Rob Zambrano said in a statement:
“The meeting where Arianna was fat shamed, the nude photo shoot, and dancers being forced to be on ‘hold’ while not on tour. However, all the other claims remain, including sexual, religious and racial discrimination, sexual harassment, the demeaning visits to the Bananenbar in Amsterdam and Crazy Horse in Paris, false imprisonment, and assault.”
