Chris Rock is opening up about his past, and he’s not sugarcoating it.

Covering GQ‘s 2026 Men of the Year issue, the comedian reflects candidly on his marriage, infidelity, therapy, and the personal growth that followed his divorce.

Rock married Malaak Compton-Rock in 1996. They separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2016. Together, they share two daughters, Lola and Zahra.

The comedian previously admitted to cheating during their marriage in his 2018 Netflix special, ‘Tamborine’. In his latest interview, however, he revisited that admission with a fresh perspective.

He said:

“I was not a great husband. I watched a lot of porn. I don’t watch porn anymore. I haven’t watched porn in five, six years. It’s not anything I’m proud of, but it’s something I had to go through.”

Rock also opened up about the impact his divorce had on his career, particularly the 12-year gap between directing 2014’s ‘Top Five’ and his new A24 film, ‘Misty Green’.

Explaining the lengthy break, he shared:

“Nobody has a successful divorce, so that takes time. Then once it’s done, you’re not sitting on the money you had before, so now you got to really make some money.”

Beyond his career, the 61-year-old revealed that he sought therapy after recognizing that his personal relationships weren’t where he wanted them to be.

He also received a diagnosis of nonverbal learning disorder, which helped him better understand how insensitive some of his past behavior had been.

As for the infamous 2022 Oscars slap involving Will Smith, Rock made clear that he would rather audiences focus on his creative work.

“Something happened. It wasn’t cool. And I would like to move on.”
