Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the NFL season after doctors discovered multiple blood clots in his lungs, ESPN reported. The 27-year-old quarterback is undergoing treatment, with his medical team describing his prognosis as very good and anticipating a full recovery.
According to a statement released Monday by Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, and the Eagles, he is “clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations.” However, he cannot participate in football activities while taking anticoagulant medication to treat the condition. Hurts was initially diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his calf. Further medical examinations revealed a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli, blood clots affecting both lungs.
The statement from Lynn and the Eagles said Jalen Hurts is expected to recover fully and could resume contact football once he is no longer taking blood thinners. “Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery,” the statement said. “We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners.”
The team also said Hurts would remain involved with the organization and continue conditioning while recovering. “More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects,” the statement added.
Hurts’ absence is a significant development for Philadelphia as the team continues its 2026 campaign. The quarterback has been central to the Eagles’ offense since becoming their starter, helping lead the franchise to a Super Bowl championship following the 2024 season.
