The filmmaker plans to move to Puerto Rico in 2027, reduce his production schedule and spend more time with his son.

Tyler Perry has bought a Puerto Rico mansion for about $30 million, weeks after saying he wanted to work less and spend more time with his son. The purchase follows his plans to slow down and his decision to list his Beverly Hills estate for $57 million.

The 57-year-old filmmaker closed on the 14,475-square-foot property, which sits on nearly 1.4 acres in a gated community, PEOPLE reported Saturday. The outlet confirmed the purchase following TMZ’s initial report. Built in 2021, the home has five bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a movie theater, a pool, a gym and an open-concept kitchen.

Perry publicly outlined his relocation plans in September. During an appearance on NBC’s “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle,” Perry said he planned to relocate to Puerto Rico at the start of 2027 and reduce his production schedule.

“Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I’m pulling back a whole lot,” he told interviewer Justin Sylvester. Perry said getting older had made him want to slow down and spend more time with Aman, his 11-year-old son with former partner Gelila Bekele.

The change won’t mean the end of his work in film and television. TMZ reported that Perry plans to open a production office in Puerto Rico and shoot projects on the island. His Atlanta studio will continue operating, according to the outlet.

The purchase comes as Perry reshapes his property holdings. In September, he listed his Beverly Hills mansion for $57 million. The property sits on 22.5 acres and previously housed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their transition away from royal duties in 2020.

He also listed a home in Jackson, Wyoming, for $39.5 million earlier this year, while continuing to own property in Atlanta and the Bahamas. The two properties have a combined asking price of $96.5 million.

The new Puerto Rico mansion gives Perry a home base for the slower pace he described in September, while leaving room for continued filmmaking. Neither the titles of the projects he may shoot on the island nor an opening date for the proposed production office have been announced.
