David Jonsson shows fans how he’s preparing for Marvel’s next ‘Black Panther’ chapter

The actor shared photos and videos of his routine months after being announced as the next hero to carry the title.

David Jonsson is giving fans an early glimpse at life after landing one of Marvel’s biggest roles.

The British actor has shared new photos and video clips showing parts of his current routine, including physical activity, hiking and morning stretches, months after being announced as the next Black Panther.

The Instagram post is Jonsson’s first since Marvel’s announcement that he will take over the iconic role for Ryan Coogler’s third “Black Panther” film. His caption, “Took the rear view out, gave it gas,” accompanied a collection of images and clips that offered a look at what he has been up to away from the spotlight.

Among the snapshots, Jonsson appears shirtless while hiking up a steep hill and is also seen riding a motorcycle, relaxing by the water and stretching. The images do not reveal specific details about his Marvel training regimen, but they arrive as the 33-year-old prepares for his most physically demanding franchise role yet.

Jonsson was announced as the new Black Panther at San Diego Comic-Con in July. He is set to portray the adult version of Toussaint, the son of T’Challa and Nakia, following the events established in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Chadwick Boseman originated the role of T’Challa in 2018’s “Black Panther” and reprised it in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” Boseman died in 2020 at age 43 after privately battling colon cancer. “Wakanda Forever” subsequently addressed T’Challa’s death while introducing his son to audiences.

The third film will reunite Jonsson with Coogler, who directed and co-wrote the first two installments. Denzel Washington is also attached to the project in a role Coogler has said was written specifically for him.

The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on Dec. 15, 2028, giving Jonsson considerable time to prepare for his first full appearance as the superhero.

His latest post offers no major production details, but it does provide the clearest look yet at how Jonsson is spending some of the time before cameras roll. With the “Black Panther” mantle moving to a new generation, his preparation is already becoming part of the story surrounding Marvel’s next chapter.
