Speaking in a recent sit-down with Complex, the Compton rapper doubled down on his claim that the culture has taken a noticeable hit amid Drake’s quieter era. Last week, he shared on his Instagram story that:
“Y’all ain’t appreciate one of the greatest now the absence & silence has the art form down 50%.”
During the interview, Game painted a bleak picture of today’s nightlife, saying:
“You walk in the clubs, everybody on their phone, nobody looks like they’re having a good time no more. If you walked in the club today, what song would make you happy about being there right now? Yeat gonna come on and turn y’all up? He gonna turn y’all section up? And I’m not sh–tin’ on Yeat; I’m sayin’ this is why Drake needs to go up.”
He continued on to say:
“This sh– is sad without Drake in the club. It’s sad, bro. But we got Drake out here feeling like we didn’t appreciate him, so now he tucked away working on Iceman, chillin’ like, ‘They don’t appreciate me.’ He should never feel that way.”
The commentary follows ongoing chatter around Drake’s headline-making feud with Kendrick Lamar, which some believe disrupted the commercial rap landscape. Still, Drake hasn’t exactly been invisible, dropping collaborations and teasing his forthcoming album ‘Iceman’ set to land May 15.
Yet according to Game, none of that replaces the cultural moment Drake creates, and he argues the genre needs it.
