Solange is lifting the lid on her musical journey, revealing that she’s spent the last seven years writing, recording, and refining her craft.

And with anticipation high for the follow-up to her acclaimed 2019 album ‘When I Get Home’, the GRAMMY winner’s latest update offers an intriguing look at what she’s been cooking up.

Taking to Instagram, the eclectic songstress shared a collection of studio photographs, notably focusing on instruments and recording spaces rather than herself.

Accompanying the images was a detailed reflection titled ‘Notes on 7 Years Of Recording Production.’

Full story below…

In the candid Instagram post, Solange opened up about her evolving approach to creating music, revealing that drums have become one of her greatest strengths.

She wrote:

“I am most proud of my drum production improvement. We really knocking round here.

From getting my ass back on the drum kit, to teaching myself timpani, to unlocking new programming systems… The thing that used to challenge me the most within my production, is now flowing like wataaa, and has become my favorite shit to do.”

The singer also revealed that she’s largely abandoned click tracks, continues to record everything from vocals to instruments using a Shure 58 microphone, and has been working closely with longtime engineers Nino and Blue.

Much of the creative process has taken place in Miami, although sessions have stretched across Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, and Paris.

Sharing how her surroundings influence the music, she explained:

“These days I need to be producing in the south, and I can’t write lyrics unless I’m sweating a lil bit.”

Interestingly, the songstress revealed that many of her recent musical collaborators are based in Atlanta.

The update comes after Solange shared a musical session with Summer Walker in September, offering another glimpse into her ongoing creative activity.

Solange also revisited her celebrated 2016 album ‘A Seat at the Table’, specifically the piano work on ‘Scales’, which she says she’s been striving to match.

She concluded that reflection with a promising declaration:

“The spirit is alive and well.”

It’s been seven years since the release of ‘When I Get Home’, which followed the chart-topping ‘A Seat at the Table’. The latter delivered Solange her first GRAMMY Award for Best R&B Performance with ‘Cranes in the Sky.’

While no new album title or release date has been announced, her latest reflections make clear that the creative process has never stopped.

And with seven years of musical exploration behind the scenes, there’s certainly plenty to be curious about when the next chapter finally arrives.
