The honor celebrates rising artists whose distinctive voices and artistry are helping shape the future of R&B.

For Elmiene, the recognition marks another milestone in a breakout year that has seen his profile continue to rise.

Connie Orlando, BET’s executive vice president of specials, music programming and music strategy, praised the singer’s artistry, saying:

“Elmiene is a gifted songwriter and vocalist whose music is rooted in the soul tradition while speaking directly to a new generation of listeners. His heartfelt lyrics and soaring falsetto have already earned him fans around the world, and he is just getting started. We are thrilled to recognize him with the New Soul Honor and welcome him to the SOUL TRAIN AWARDS stage in Chicago.”

The announcement follows the March release of Elmiene’s debut album, ‘sounds for someone’, which arrived after a string of acclaimed projects and performances alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder and SZA.

As previously reported, the Soul Train Awards are returning after a three-year absence. This year’s ceremony will take place in Chicago and mark the show’s debut on CBS.

The ‘Soul Train Awards 2026’ air Friday, November 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET and CBS.
