Olivia Dean‘s ‘I’ve Seen It’ is at the center of a copyright lawsuit.

Mattie Music Group publishes the late Soul legend’s composition. It claims Dean’s 2025 album track copies protected parts of the song’s distinctive melody.

The publisher filed its complaint in California federal court on October 1.

The lawsuit names Capitol Records, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Publishing, and Kobalt Music Publishing as defendants. However, it does not name Dean or her co-writers, Bastian Langebaek and Max Wolfgang, as individual defendants.

The publisher says a musicologist found substantial similarities between the two songs. It also claims it sent notices to the defendants in August.

Now, the company wants damages and a court order to stop any further alleged infringement. No court has yet ruled on those claims. The defendants had not publicly responded at the time of publication.

Meanwhile, the dispute arrives during a major career chapter for Dean.

The singer won the 2026 GRAMMY for Best New Artist. Soon after, ‘Man I Need’ soared to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

She also recently pushed back on “one-hit wonder” talk surrounding her breakout success.

With her music now under a legal microscope, this will be one to watch.
