The ‘Candy Girl’ singers were honored in their hometown when a portion of the street in Roxbury was renamed ‘New Edition Way.’ That same street was where most of the group was born and raised, and where the ensemble first came together 42 years ago.
Mayor Michelle Wu also announced that the group now officially has a ‘New Edition Day’ in the city.
All six members – Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, and Johnny Gill – were in attendance to witness the honor.
Brown reflected on what the street renaming meant to him, saying:
“New Edition Way is the way life is for us and has been for us for a long time.”
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley also paid tribute, sharing:
“These are six extraordinarily talented Black men, five sons of Roxbury and one of the DMV, whom we happily embrace.”
Congrats to New Edition, it’s well-deserved recognition!
