Ms. Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu share first-ever joint portrait celebrating Black creativity

The two music icons come together for a rare shoot highlighting their influence on culture, fashion and art.

Ms. Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu have been photographed together for the first time in a historic joint portrait for Outlander Magazine. The rare collaboration brings together two influential Black artists whose music, fashion and creative identities have shaped popular culture for decades.

Hill is known for her work with the Fugees and her landmark solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” and Badu’s career helped define the neo-soul movement with albums like “Baduizm” and “Mama’s Gun.”

They have long represented individuality and creative freedom within Black culture. As reported by Bella Naija Style, their first-ever joint portrait comes as Outlander Magazine brings the two artists together for a moment that extends beyond music. Their influence can be seen across fashion, beauty and visual culture, making the shoot a reflection of how Black artists have increasingly shaped global creative expression.

The production also features Nigerian beauty talent Ngozi ‘Painted By Esther’ Edememe as part of the makeup team. Her involvement adds an African creative connection to a shoot centered on two American artists whose influence has reached audiences worldwide.

The project brought together an international creative team led by photographer and creative director Elliot Hensford, with TJ Saw serving as creative director and Callum McCafferty as Outlander founder and editor-in-chief.

For Black audiences, the shoot goes beyond seeing two beloved artists in the same frame. It is also a celebration of women who have maintained strong, authentic creative identities while influencing generations of music, fashion and culture.
