Tay Keith‘s legacy is being cemented in his hometown of Memphis.

Following what would have been the late hitmaker’s 30th birthday, Keith’s family gathered with city officials to celebrate his contributions to music and the Memphis community.

The producer was posthumously presented with the key to the city, while September 20 has officially been declared Tay Keith Day.

The tributes also included the unveiling of Tay Keith Music Lab at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. Created through a partnership between Keith’s family and Memphis Public Libraries, the space will give aspiring young producers and musicians access to music-production equipment and beat-making courses.

Keith’s impact on Hip-Hop remains undeniable. Before his shocking death at 29, he earned two Grammy nominations and scored 11 Billboard Hot 100 top-10 hits, including chart-toppers such as Travis Scott‘s ‘Sicko Mode‘ and Drake and J. Cole‘s ‘First Person Shooter.’

His legacy will now continue by inspiring the next generation of Memphis creatives.
