Odell Beckham Jr. released by the Giants as reunion with team only lasts three games

The star receiver returned to New York hoping to finish unfinished business, but his second stint ended without a catch.

One New York feel-good sports story from the summer has come to an end.

Odell Beckham Jr.‘s return to the New York Giants has reportedly come to an end after the team released him from his contract after only three games, according to multiple reports.

Beckham signed with the team as a free agent earlier this summer to wrap up some “unfinished business” with the club that drafted him with the No. 12 pick in the 2014 NFL draft. However, that business limited his production on the field, as he took only 19 snaps over three games. He did not record a single catch.

The three-time Pro Bowler, before his second stint with the Giants, last played with the Miami Dolphins during the 2024 season. He registered only nine catches for 54 yards, after stints in Baltimore with the Ravens and Los Angeles with the Rams. In Los Angeles, he stepped up during the postseason and caught the opening touchdown in Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals, before leaving in the second quarter with a torn ACL. The Rams went on to win the Super Bowl, 23-20.

In New York, Beckham became a household name, due in large part to a jaw-dropping catch against the Dallas Cowboys during his rookie season in 2014. He was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year that season and was named to the cover of “Madden,” the youngest player ever to receive such a distinction.

With Beckham becoming a free agent, it is unclear where the 33-year-old will sign next, as numerous teams lacking wide receiver depth might give him a look. For his career, Beckham has caught 575 passes for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns, but has not had a 1,000-yard season since 2019, when he played for the Cleveland Browns.
