Lizzo is giving Dolly Parton her flowers for showing her kindness during a period when she felt the world had turned against her.
The singer took to Instagram on Halloween to share a Dolly Parton-inspired look and reflect on the country music icon’s support during a difficult chapter in her life. As AllHipHop reported, Lizzo recalled how Parton invited her to contribute flute to her album, “Rockstar,” and made sure her musical alter ego received proper recognition.
“In 2024 when the world turned its back on me Dolly Parton asked me to play flute on her album,” Lizzo wrote.
The singer said she enthusiastically accepted the invitation, with one request: that Parton credit Sasha Flute, Lizzo’s flute-playing persona, alongside her own name.
“I, of course said ‘hell yes’ and my only ask was that she credit Sasha Flute as well,” Lizzo continued.
According to Lizzo, Parton honored the request, and their collaboration went on to earn a plaque.
“Dolly, you icon you, thank you for believing in the good of humanity, for seeing our light in the darkness and loving us anyways!” she wrote.
The collaboration appeared on Parton’s “Rockstar” album, which features Lizzo and Sasha Flute on the Led Zeppelin cover “Stairway to Heaven.” Parton’s rock-focused project was released in November 2023 and earned RIAA gold certification in March 2024.
Lizzo’s Halloween tribute paid homage to Parton’s iconic “Jolene” era, with the singer wearing a yellow floral outfit, a voluminous blonde wig and posing with a guitar.
The post comes amid a period of public scrutiny for Lizzo, who has faced legal allegations from former employees that she has disputed.
Rather than revisit the controversy, Lizzo used the moment to celebrate a meaningful professional connection and the person who offered her encouragement when she needed it.
“From H-Town to Nashville — we will always love you,” she wrote.
