Six others were injured in the off-campus nightclub shooting, which remains under investigation by Jackson police.

Jackson State University has canceled undergraduate classes for Monday and Tuesday, November 2–3, following a shooting at an off-campus nightclub that killed two of its students and injured six other people. The victims were identified as 20-year-old Lovdai Poindexter and 18-year-old Jada Henderson.

The shooting happened early Sunday at The Hideaway, located along the 5100 block of Interstate 55 North Frontage Road in Jackson, during a Halloween celebration. According to an investigation reported by  WAPT-TV, two masked men entered the nightclub, and one began firing into the crowd. Poindexter and Henderson were pronounced dead at the scene, and their families have been notified.

Six additional people were injured in the shooting. Authorities have not announced a motive, and the circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation. In a statement, Jackson State University said its community was devastated by the deaths of members of its student body. The university said it would provide support and comfort to students and others affected by the shooting. Undergraduate classes were canceled for November 2 and 3, while campus grief counseling and emotional support services were made available. The university also urged its community to support the victims’ families and one another during the difficult period.

The Jackson Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting and is asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspects to come forward. As the investigation continues, the university’s immediate priority is supporting students and staff as they process the loss of their classmates. Authorities have asked witnesses and members of the public to contact the department at 601-960-1800 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
