The Grammy winner will return to her hometown to lead the annual celebration alongside musicians from her former high school marching band.

Lizzo is returning to her hometown in a special role this Thanksgiving season after being named grand marshal of Houston’s 77th Annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Grammy-winning singer will lead the festivities through downtown Houston on Thursday, November 26, 2026, alongside musicians from her former high school marching band.

According to  FOX 26 Houston, the announcement was shared during a press conference outlining Houston’s holiday celebration lineup. The annual parade is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., featuring live entertainment, elaborate floats, five marching bands and family-friendly performances. Before becoming an internationally recognized performer, Lizzo attended Elsik High School in Alief Independent School District, where she played the flute as a member of the Mighty Ram marching band.

The band is expected to accompany her during the parade, creating a homecoming moment that connects her current success with the musical experiences that helped shape her early years. Lizzo, whose birth name is Melissa Jefferson, has built a career combining singing, rapping and flute performance. Her rise to international prominence has included Grammy Awards and major performances celebrating her distinctive musical style.

Her selection as grand marshal gives Houston an opportunity to celebrate a hometown artist whose career has taken her from school-band performances to some of the biggest stages in entertainment. The 77th Annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade will travel through downtown Houston on Thanksgiving morning, continuing a holiday tradition that brings residents and visitors together.

Organizers say attendees can expect: Five marching bands—including Lizzo’s former high school band—live musical performances, elaborate parade floats, and festive activities suitable for families. Tickets are available for those planning to attend, although prospective attendees should check the official event information for current ticketing details and parade logistics.
