Stephanie Mills on Backlash Over Sharing Khia Video: “I’m NOT Homophobic,” But “Why Are Gay Men So Sensitive?”

‘Something in the Way You Make Me Feel‘ singer Stephanie Mills had her LGBTQ+ fans feeling a way after she took to social media recently to share a post many deemed homophobic.

And while the clip shared incited some heated commentary and criticism, the R&B legend looks to clear the air and affirm for her longtime followers that she has nothing but love for her gay supporters.

Earlier this month, Stephanie took to Instagram to repost a clip of controversial rapper Khia questioning what she believes is a lack of masculine men in the gay community.

“If everybody wanna be a girl, who gon be the boys?” quipped the femcee in the resurfaced viral video. “I keep saying that. That’s the whole purpose of you being gay, because you like boys.”

The 69-year-old co-signed the sentiment with her caption.

“This is soooo true, and I say this with love,” she wrote alongside the post.

Mills’ statement provoked quick backlash, with many commenters accusing her of supporting homophobic rhetoric despite having such a large gay fanbase herself.

Tired of the hoopla, the ‘Home‘ singer proactively brought up the topic during her time on ‘The Jason Lee Show.’

When not upsetting Lady Gaga fans and Chris Brown detractors with her assessments on each, Stephanie – albeit unapologetically – waxed honest about the inoffensive intent behind sharing the Khia clip, even revealing she had no clue who the ‘My Neck, My Back’ rapper was at the time.

“I want to say because of my post, I am not homophobic. I was once madly in love with a gay man,” Mills relayed before saying, “[What Khia said] is true. For a Black woman, we don’t have no [real] men out here.”

All-in-all, the GRAMMY-winning R&B icon suggested she felt the issue lied more with how the post was received than its content.

“I just thought the post was funny, and I thought ‘wow, that’s true,'” Stephanie shared before saying, “But, why are [gay men] so sensitive?”
