John Legend has another major honor headed his way.

The EGOT winner will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Music Matters Awards Gala in May 2027, celebrating a legacy that stretches beyond the recording booth.

Full story below…

Hosted by the Guitar Center Music Foundation at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Beverly Hills on May 21, 2027, the gala will salute Legend’s contributions to music, education, and philanthropy.

The evening will also raise funds to expand access to instruments and music education nationwide.

Sharing his gratitude, Legend said:

“Music is one of the most profound forms of human expression, connecting communities and inspiring possibility. I’m deeply honoured to be recognized by the Guitar Center Music Foundation and support its commitment to expanding access to music education for the next generation.”

Valeisha Butterfield, the foundation’s CEO and executive director, praised the singer, saying he “shares the Guitar Center Music Foundation’s belief in the transformative power of music.”

That commitment runs through his work offstage, too.

In 2015, Legend founded FREEAMERICA to help end mass incarceration. He followed with HUMANLEVEL in 2021, investing in community-driven solutions. He also serves on the boards of Harlem Village Academies, Global Citizen, and Management Leadership for Tomorrow.

The gala will feature a red carpet, dinner, awards, and musical tributes, with additional honorees and performers to be announced in the coming months.

Tickets start at $2,500.

Bonus: The news comes just a day after Legend, hot on the promo trail in support of his October 23-released album ‘Muse,’ rocked ‘Good Morning America’ with a live performance of the LP’s critically acclaimed single ‘Daylight.’
