Jaafar Jackson lands first major role after ‘Michael’ alongside Will Smith

The actor will appear in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming thriller “Supermax,” marking his first announced project since “Michael.”

Jaafar Jackson has joined Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb in Amazon MGM Studios’ “Supermax,” taking his first announced role after leading the billion-dollar “Michael” biopic and adding another major film to Smith’s action slate. Jackson’s role in “Supermax” has not been revealed.

People reported that Jackson, 30, will costar in the action thriller, which is scheduled to begin filming in mid-August. The movie will stream exclusively on Prime Video worldwide.

“Supermax” follows two FBI agents investigating a murder inside what its synopsis calls the world’s most secure prison. Smith will play an agent named Rex, while Robb will portray his partner. No details have been released about Jackson’s character or how he fits into the investigation.

David Gordon Green, whose credits include “Halloween” and “The Exorcist: Believer,” will direct the movie. David Weil and David J. Rosen wrote the screenplay and will serve as executive producers. Smith and Adam Fishbach are producing through Smith’s Westbrook company.

Jackson’s “Supermax” role is his next acting project after portraying his uncle Michael Jackson in “Michael.” That performance marked Jackson’s screen debut and helped carry the biopic beyond $1 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the first biographical film to reach that milestone.

Jackson, the son of Jermaine Jackson, has said he never expected to become an actor before the opportunity to audition for “Michael” arose. His move into “Supermax” now takes him from a musical biopic into a contemporary action thriller.
