DC Studios is taking a seriously dark turn with ‘Clayface,’ and its leading stars, Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie, are lifting the lid on the gritty new movie.

That Grape Juice was on hand at the film’s European premiere in London, where the duo dished on the gruesome horror thriller and its decidedly different approach to the DC Universe.

We also caught up with director James Watkins, Joshua James, Tanya Moodie, and singer Jasmine Jethwa for more exclusive chats.

Anyone expecting a conventional superhero spectacle ought to revise those expectations.

Harries takes center stage as Matt Hagen, an aspiring Hollywood leading man whose life spirals after a horrific disfigurement.

Desperate to reclaim his former appearance, he undergoes an experimental treatment. However, the consequences send him down an increasingly disturbing path.

Speaking with TG, the Welsh actor helped paint the picture of a character-driven story that doesn’t shy away from its darker, gorier elements.

Meanwhile, Ackie, who portrays scientist Dr. Caitlyn Corr, joined the conversation about the film’s intense subject matter and compelling characters.

The actress is no stranger to unsettling thrillers, having previously spoken with TGJ about her starring role in ‘Blink Twice.’

That darker direction was a recurring theme across the carpet.

Director Watkins, whose credits include ‘Speak No Evil,’ was among those discussing the film’s uncompromising tone. Fellow attendees Joshua James and Tanya Moodie also joined us as the conversation turned to the movie’s gritty world.

And there was music news, too.

Jethwa opened up about her haunting cover of Chicago’s classic ‘If You Leave Me Now,’ which features on the movie’s soundtrack alongside the score from Oscar-winning composer Volker Bertelmann.

Written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, ‘Clayface’ marks a striking departure from the more traditional superhero action of DC illustrious history.

Indeed, the hard-hitting production is shaping up as one of DC’s most unflinching cinematic outings yet.

‘Clayface’ hits cinemas on October 23.
