Cardi B may have found herself on the receiving end of thunderous praise for her takeover of ‘T Magazine,‘ the culture and luxury style leg of ‘The New York Times’ publication family, but it’s pretty safe to say the adulation wasn’t exactly unanimous – especially once some readers got a whiff of some of the quotes lining the feature.
Amid earning mixed reactions for crowning Keyshia Cole‘s 2005 debut ‘The Way It Is‘ as the greatest album of all time, fans of Nicki Minaj – the rapper’s longtime nemesis – clocked the ‘Bodak Yellow‘ beauty (born Belcalis Almanzar) for not mentioning the Harajuku Barbie on the list of artists who influenced her.
The omission being branded as veiled shade sent the ‘Am I the Drama?’ hitmaker on the defense this week, calling out the fan group (called #Barbz) for attempting to stir up drama where there was none.

During a recent chat to her dedicated fans (affectionately called #BardiGang) on X Spaces, Cardi tackled detractors head-on who slammed her ‘T Magazine’ article for only naming Madonna, Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, and Trina as her direct influences.
“I don’t really like mentioning Foxy because I know for a fact she doesn’t like me. I don’t give a f-ck if she likes me or not, but one thing I’ll never do is lie. Yes, I used to listen to her music when I was younger,” the GRAMMY-winning rapstress said before relaying, “It bothers y’all and triggers y’all so much that this is what I grew up listening to [Madonna, Missy, Kim, etc.].”
Amid praising Missy specifically for being among her main inspirations, Cardi was clear to make the differentiation between being a fan of artists versus being influenced by them – especially when it comes to Nicki.
“Yeah, when somebody else [Minaj] came on the scene I was already 17-years-old. Yes, of course, I listened to her, but no. When I was growing up, these are the women [Madonna, Missy, Kim, etc.] I was listening to and seeing on television,” Almanzar relayed.
Despite refusing to mention the Young Money maven by name, it was no secret who Cardi was referencing in the rant.
“And I don’t talk about y’all faves, I do my own sh-t. Y’all fave do some sh-t every other day, go pay attention to that. My fans [should pay attention to me]. You [Barbz] should go pay attention to [Nicki] interviews and the sh-t she has going on,” she said to Minaj’s fan base.
Elsewhere in the fiery chat, Cardi showed love to her ‘WAP‘ co-star Megan Thee Stallion, ‘Twerk’ collaborators City Girls, and ‘Tomorrow 2‘ tag-team partner GloRilla as the standard bearers for the new wave of female Hip-Hop.
