The journalist announced the arrival of her son on Instagram, sharing that he is already “eating and sleeping like a champ.”

CNN anchor Abby Phillip is officially a mom of two!

The journalist and her husband, Marcus Richardson, welcomed their second child, a baby boy named Maxwell Elias Richardson, on Oct. 27. Phillip shared the exciting news on Instagram on Tuesday, Nov. 3, giving followers a glimpse into the growing family.

“Welcome to the world Maxwell Elias Richardson! We’re overjoyed to welcome our sweet baby boy to our family,” Phillip wrote in her announcement.

The CNN anchor also revealed that Maxwell made his entrance into the world at home, with assistance from the couple’s midwife.

“He was born on October 27th at home with the help of our wonderful midwife,” she continued. “He’s eating and sleeping like a champ and making himself right at home.”

As People reported, Maxwell joins his big sister, Naomi Angelina Richardson, 4, whom Phillip and Richardson welcomed in August 2021.

The couple first announced they were expecting another child in May, with Phillip sharing that their journey to expanding their family included in vitro fertilization (IVF).

“Our journey to a second child looked a little different from our first. Like so many families, we were able to conceive with the help of IVF,” Phillip told People at the time.

The journalist also spoke candidly about the emotional and physical challenges of the process, expressing gratitude for the outcome while acknowledging families still navigating fertility struggles.

“In this moment, I’m both grateful that we were successful in God’s perfect timing and I’m also holding hope in my heart for all the families who are still waiting in their journey,” she said.

Phillip added that the experience was challenging to manage but ultimately brought the family to a beautiful place.

The arrival of Maxwell marks another milestone for the couple, who married in Washington, D.C., in 2018. Phillip has previously spoken about balancing motherhood with her demanding career in journalism, including covering the 2020 presidential election while pregnant with Naomi.

Now, with a new baby at home and Naomi stepping into her role as big sister, the family has another reason to celebrate.

Congratulations to Abby Phillip and Marcus Richardson on their newest addition!
