Nicki Minaj may have taken to social media this week to flex gaining a Trump Gold card “free of charge,” but – according to a White House official – the post severely lacked context.

As reported here, Minaj – the same day she made headlines for speaking at Trump’s Accounts Summit and declaring she was his “no.1 fan” – took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to reveal she was the proud owner of a Gold Card.

For context, the VISA program (which is the equivalent of a green card) is available to qualifying wealthier immigrants who would like to expedite the process of becoming a permanent resident of the United States by paying a $1 million fee.

“Residency? Residency? The cope is coping,” Nicki told her 25.6 million followers on the platform on Wednesday (January 28) in response to murmurs about her pronounced allegiance to Trump being performative. “Finalizing that citizenship paperwork as we speak as per MY wonderful, gracious, charming President. Thanks to the petition.  I wouldn’t have done it without you.”

During an exclusive interview with ‘The New York Times‘ published on Friday (January 30), however, a White House official – who opted for anonymity for safety reasons – refuted Minaj’s inference the Gold Card had any bearing on changing her immigration status.

“Turns out, all Ms. Minaj got was a gold-colored card bearing Mr. Trump’s face. A White House official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe the gift, said the gold card was simply a ‘memento’ rather than a ‘VISA document,'” the article reads. “Despite her flexing, the card would probably serve little value to Ms. Minaj, who already appears to have legal status.”

At the time of this report the Harajuku Barbie nor a representative from her camp has publicly acknowledged the ‘NYT’ article nor clarified what she meant with her original tweet.
