The French photographer approached Law Roach outside Balmain during Paris Fashion Week and walked away with a portrait and a viral moment.
Chloé Bauve had only seconds to make her pitch.
The French fashion and portrait photographer spotted Law Roach outside Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2027 show during Paris Fashion Week and asked him for a portrait. He stopped.
Now, more than 8 million viewers have seen the video of the encounter. Creator Sabina Randjelovi, whose handle is@salma__palma, shows Chloé approaching Roach with her Canon camera as he moves through the crowd. She makes her pitch, and moments later, he’s posing for her.
“Sometimes you just have to ask,” the text on the video reads.
And Chloé did.
The encounter happened outside Balmain’s Sept. 30 show, where designer Antonin Tron presented his second collection for the French fashion house.
It was a notable moment for Balmain. Tron took over as creative director after Olivier Rousteing’s 14-year run at the house, bringing his own vision to a label long associated with Rousteing’s glamorous, celebrity-heavy aesthetic. Rousteing left Balmain in November 2025 and was named Rabanne’s creative director earlier this year.
For Spring/Summer 2027, Tron continued exploring Balmain’s history while putting his own spin on it. The collection drew from founder Pierre Balmain’s love of dramatic animal prints and couture techniques, while also pulling inspiration from 1950s Paris, the American West Coast and psychedelic culture. The show took place at the Hôtel de Maisons, the former home of Karl Lagerfeld.
Amid all of that fashion-world movement, Chloé was focused on getting one particular image.
She spotted Roach and approached him.
That’s not a small ask. Known as the “Image Architect,” Roach has spent years shaping the visual identities of some of entertainment’s biggest stars, most notably through his longtime creative partnership with Zendaya.
The video captures what happened next: Roach stops, hears Chloé out and agrees to pose.
The resulting portrait, shared by Chloé on social media, shows Roach outside the Balmain show, dressed in brown leather and looking directly into her lens.
But the photograph is only part of what made the moment stand out.
The video gives viewers a front-row seat to the split-second decision behind it: Chloé saw an opportunity and went for it.
No invitation. No elaborate introduction. Just the ask.
And now she has the portrait to prove it.
