The comedy titan is attached to lead new Peacock drama ‘The Chairman.’

And, should the project move forward to series, it will mark a notable first in Murphy’s five-decade career.

Full story below…

Per Variety, ‘The Chairman’ is currently in development at the streamer, with Murphy set to star and produce alongside ‘Mad Men’ creator Matthew Weiner.

Plot details are being kept firmly under wraps… for now.

What is known is that the project would serve as Murphy’s first leading role in a live-action scripted television series.

The 65-year-old famously launched into superstardom on ‘Saturday Night Live’ before building a blockbuster movie career, while his previous scripted series work includes animated comedy ‘The PJs.’

The TV venture adds another intriguing chapter to Murphy’s multifaceted run. Earlier this year, the legend was celebrated with the AFI Life Achievement Award, and he is also set to take center stage in his own ‘Shrek’ spinoff, ‘Donkey’, in 2028.
