10 years after soaring to the top of charts thanks to the dance craze attached to his signature hit ‘Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae),’ rapper Silento is set to watch 30 years of his life go by behind bars after pleading guilty to killing his cousin.

As reported here, the Atlanta-reared emcee – born Ricky Hawk – was indicted for his connection to a deadly 2021 shooting that took the lift of his 34-year-old cousin Frederick Rooks III.

Hawk pleaded guilty but mentally ill to voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and other charges related to the incident.

At the time of his arrest, Chanel Hudson – the Rap star’s PR manager and rep – released a statement on his behalf.

“Please send my client Silentó some positive vibrations. Over the past several years, Ricky has been suffering immensely from a series of mental health illnesses. We will continue in his efforts of treatment, but we ask in the meantime the public uplift him and his family in immediate prayer and positive energy,” Hudson said before sharing, “Ricky is a beautiful soul, and we hope that the same people who came up whipping’ & nay nay-in with him, continue to support him and lifted in prayer!”

Silento had been in custody at the DeKalb County Jail since his arrest – an apprehension that followed two other highly publicized crimes including reportedly speeding over 140 MPH on a Georgia interstate and trying to harm two people with a hatchet in Los Angeles in the years prior.

Following his plea connected to the killing of his cousin, a DeKalb County Superior Court judge has sentenced him to 30 years in prison.
