Viral scammer Daejon Love to receive Netflix documentary treatment for ‘Untold’ series

‘Untold: Wide Deceiver’ will go beyond the viral jokes to examine the darker allegations surrounding Love’s fabricated lifestyle.

The tale of Daejon Love, the man who attempted to pull the wool over the eyes of more than a dozen women by claiming, among other falsehoods, that he played for the San Francisco 49ers and owned a Gucci store on Saks Fifth Avenue, is headed to Netflix.

On Wednesday, the streamer confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Love’s route-running scam to scam women through his fabricated lifestyle would be part of their sports documentary series “Untold.”

The film, titled “Untold: Wide Deceiver,” will chronicle how the scam evolved through “firsthand accounts from those affected by the scam,” exposing that, beyond the jokes, which reached sports figures all across the league, a “far darker” story was beneath the surface.

In late August, Love was arrested on wire fraud charges after a group of women, all of whom claimed to be alleged victims of his and his business partner, reported Love’s schemes to law enforcement. Before his arrest, he’d established a digital footprint strong enough that even Google recognized him as a member of the 49ers. In numerous videos, Love could be seen shirtless, running routes and catching passes, while telling women that he owned numerous businesses, was born in Switzerland and more. In almost every clip, his 49ers helmet was not too far from his side.

Soon, longtime sports fans and NFL players themselves pointed out how Love was scamming and had never been on a true NFL roster. Love claimed the 49ers sent him a cake for his birthday with his fake No. 7 jersey and more.

The film does not have a director at the current time, but “Untold” has previously looked into several scandalous sports stories through its documentary series, including the death of Steve McNair, the “Jailblazer” era of the Portland Trail Blazers and more.
