The singer and TV host kept her baby bump hidden for seven months before letting the world in on her big news.
It’s major news for Canadian singer and former BET “106 & Park” host Keisha Chanté: she’s pregnant with her first child.
In an interview with Hello Canada, Chanté revealed how she’d kept her pregnancy hidden from the world for so long before popping out.
“I’m so excited,” the “Bad Boy” singer said. “I’m such a girlie girl. I’m always in pink. Everything is pink and pink and pink. So I thought I was gonna have a girl, but it’s a boy! I’m so excited for all the boy fashion!”
With Rihanna as a maternity muse, the 38-year-old wore various gowns accentuating her baby bump while admitting that not only did the first trimester “kick her ass,” but she lost 14 pounds in the process.
“I couldn’t even hold down a sip of water,” she said. “Everything – every scent, every sound, everything – was overwhelming. I pretty much locked myself in my room for two months.”
In a black-and-white photo posted on Instagram, Chanté can be seen wearing a white gown, clutching her baby bump. In the caption, she penned a loving message to her unborn son, who she hopes is a “water baby.”
“Thank you God,” she began the post. “To my sweet baby, I am sooo in love. 🥹 I can’t wait to meet you! I am grateful and honored you chose me to be your mommy.”
She continued, “I’ve spent every day daydreaming about you and all the fun adventures I want to take you on. I’m so excited to make holidays special, create beautiful memories and experience life through your eyes. Mommy & Daddy are so excited to welcome you into the world. 🤍 Oh, and we’ve already got you booked & busy. Dada’s got your studio locked and we expect your album to drop summer 2027.”
While the identity of the child’s father hasn’t been publicly revealed, Chanté made it clear that she was “unavailable” and that the child’s father first approached her with the idea of welcoming a little one into the world.
“I’m very free-spirited, and whatever the universe wants for me, I’ll have,” she said. “But he said he was ready. He set up the play and he nailed it! God bless him.”
She added that she hopes her son picks up some of his father’s musical gifts, though one particular artist’s reps have shot down that he’s the dad.
“He’s brilliant and super creative and just constantly doing things that I’m inspired by,” the Canadian Screen Award nominee said. “So I would love to see my son have his mannerisms and his swag.”
Congratulations to Keisha and her growing family.
