Viola Davis, star of the upcoming Prime Video film ‘G20‘, recently shared a deeply moving conversation with her mentor, Cicely Tyson, just weeks before her passing.

Davis, who has always spoken highly of the women who shaped her journey, named Tyson as one of the most pivotal figures in her life.

The two shared a powerful bond, with Tyson’s role in ‘How to Get Away with murder‘ and numerous Tyler Perry films paving the way for Black actresses in Hollywood.

In a recent interview, Davis revealed the lasting impact Tyson had on her, especially one particular piece of advice Tyson gave her shortly before she passed. 

 Davis shared: 

“Cicely reminded me that what’s for me is for me.”

The EGOT winner is once again using her platform to tell powerful stories that reflect the strength, complexity, and beauty of Black women—just as Cicely Tyson did for generations.
