Tyler Perry is opening another door for emerging filmmakers.

The entertainment mogul has launched Maxscene, a new specialty division of Tyler Perry Studios focused on creating more theatrical opportunities for filmmakers.

Named after Perry’s late mother, Maxine, the new label is inspired by the unwavering belief she had in her son and his creative journey.

In a statement, Perry said:

“My mother, Maxine, believed in me before anyone else did, and that belief is the reason I never stopped chasing this path. Maxscene exists to be that same source of belief for the next generation of storytellers. It’s about taking the confidence and encouragement she poured into me and paying it forward by championing filmmakers who need someone to believe in them, open the door, and help them reach the audience waiting on the other side.”

Antoinetta Stallings, Tyler Perry Studios’ Head of Development & Acquisitions, will oversee the division. She previously served as the studio’s VP of unscripted programming.

With Tyler Perry Studios already boasting an extensive film and television catalogue, Maxscene marks another major step in Perry’s commitment to creating opportunities behind the camera.

The launch comes during another busy stretch for the prolific filmmaker, whose ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’ is set to land on Netflix next month.
