Tatyana Ali used the dancefloor to tribute a special person who helped shape her life and career.

The actress, best known for playing “Ashley Banks” on the classic 90’s sitcom ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,’ dedicated her latest ‘Dancing With the Stars‘ performance to her late TV dad James Avery (known to millions as “Uncle Phil”) during the show’s Dedication Night on Tuesday (October 20).

Partnering with professional dancer Jan Ravnik, Ali performed a Viennese waltz to Nancy Wilson‘s (You Don’t Know) How Glad I Am,’ delivering the vocals herself. The emotional routine celebrated Avery, who portrayed the beloved “Philip Banks” on ‘Fresh Prince’ and served as a father figure to the younger cast members.

Former co-star Alfonso Ribeiro, who now co-hosts ‘DWTS,’ joined Ali during the performance to help pay tribute to the late actor.

Speaking about Avery, Ali shared:

“Every holiday, James would give me a baby doll, I have a collection of beautiful baby dolls, and he told me, ‘I’m giving you these dolls because they look like you, and I always want you to know how beautiful you are.’ He poured into me quite a bit.”

Avery died on December 31, 2013 aged 68 following complication from open heart surgery.

With the tribute bringing together two members of the iconic sitcom’s family, Ali’s performance served as a touching reminder of Avery’s lasting influence.
