Unbeknownst to him at the time, Kanye West‘s sophomore album, 2005’s ‘Late Registration,’ would begin one of the longest Billboard 200 chart-topping streaks in history – a run that’s seen each of his solo projects that followed soar to the top of the tally.
And while early reports suggested that status would continue with the long-awaited unveiling of his latest album ‘Bully,’ industry analyst predictions are telling a different story.
Kanye West’s ‘Bully’
Predicted First-Week Sales (SPS): 117,000 units
Predicted Billboard 200 Debut: #2
Via an updated report published Wednesday (April 1), HDD asserted ‘Bully’ – released a day later than expected (March 28) with minimal promotion – would likely see its first-week sales land around the 117,000 mark.
That figure is currently on track to be outpaced by the 170,000 units expected to be shifted by the second-week sales of BTS‘ blockbuster comeback album ‘Arirang.’
If the predictions ring true, it would mark the first solo studio album of Ye’s to miss the top spot since 2004’s ‘College Dropout.’
The sum would also come as the lowest opening figure of his career, marking the first time any of his solo LPs sold less than 200,000 copies first-week.
Keep it locked to That Grape Juice for the official final figures once they’re unveiled Monday (April 6).
