Jason Momoa is going full beast mode in ‘Street Fighter,’ but beneath the fists, fury, and larger-than-life action, the blockbuster struck an unexpectedly emotional chord with the star.
The action titan transforms into fan-favorite Blanka in the big-screen adaptation of the iconic Capcom franchise.
That Grape Juice caught up with Momoa at the film’s London launch, where he dished on bringing the beloved beast to life, the movie’s wonderfully wild cast, and revealed that the experience even moved him to tears.
Full story below…
In perhaps the most unexpected moment of our chat, the usually larger-than-life star got candid about just how much ‘Street Fighter’ affected him emotionally:
“I cried.”
Indeed, for Momoa, Blanka isn’t simply another blockbuster transformation. His affection for the green, electrically charged fighter runs deep.
“I love the beast. I love his moves.”
And he certainly isn’t entering the arena alone.
‘Street Fighter’ boasts an eclectic ensemble spanning Hollywood, music, wrestling, and comedy. Andrew Koji leads as Ryu alongside Noah Centineo as Ken Masters and Callina Liang as Chun-Li.
Elsewhere, 50 Cent steps into the ring as Balrog, David Dastmalchian plays M. Bison, Roman Reigns tackles Akuma, and Cody Rhodes suits up as Guile.
It’s an intentionally larger-than-life line-up, and our chat with Momoa makes clear that there’s plenty of heart behind the Hadoukens too.
Set in 1993, the film sees Ryu and Ken pulled back into battle when Chun-Li recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament, only for a much bigger conspiracy to emerge.
‘Street Fighter’ hits cinemas October 16
