Dwayne Johnson is no stranger to the ring. Case in point, his ever-enduring run as The Rock. Yet, for his latest theatrical role – in ‘The Smashing Machine’ – the superstar steps into the squared circle in a compelling new capacity.

For, he stars as Mark Kerr – the real-life two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion who was the focus of the 2002 HBO documentary of the same name that chronicled his rise and struggles with addiction to pain killers.

Written and directed by Benny Safdie, the film is powered by A24 and sees Johnson transform by way of prosthetics to relay Kerr’s layered story.
