‘Leave me alone’: Claressa Shields is prioritizing her peace with a 90-day ‘negativity’ cleanse

The undisputed boxing champion says she is creating distance from situations that impact her mental health and energy.

Claressa Shields is pushing away all of the drama.

After spending months in the headlines for back-and-forths with other boxers and her boyfriend’s estranged wife, the Olympic gold medalist and self-proclaimed “G.W.O.A.T.” is being intentional about anything that blocks her clarity, especially negativity.

On TikTok Live on Monday (Sept. 21), Shields announced she was in the midst of a 90-day “negativity cleanse,” even revealing her mental exhaustion about blocking people daily. The undisputed boxing champion ensured that the best course for her mental health was to stay far away from people and situations that tried to bring her down.

“I’m on a 90-day negativity cleanse. And I know that now that I’ve said that, people are going to come rush me with negativity,” she began. “But y’all, I’ve been doing really, really, really good the past six days on the negativity cleanse. ‘[It’s] about to be a week.”

She added, “I am working on cleansing my energy and cleansing my space and I don’t want nobody messing with me.”

Given her nature at times to engage with other people online, Shields admitted that she wasn’t a “nasty” or “mean” person, but will always defend herself.

“I don’t want to cuss nobody out. Leave me alone,” she said. “Like I said, I’m not a nasty person, I’m not a mean person, but I don’t let nobody pick on me or do anything to me, because yes, I will put my hands on you.”

The negativity cleanse comes amid Shields going online to trade barbs with fellow boxer Franchon Crews-Dezurn over the evolution of Chrisean Malone, better known as Chrisean Rock. Malone recently made her pro boxing debut, although fans demanded refunds after her opponent quit mere minutes into the fight, securing Malone a TKO victory.

Outside of boxing, Shields has found herself in the middle of an ugly divorce proceeding between rapper Remy Ma and her estranged husband, Papoose, whom Shields is currently dating. As Remy and Shields traded shots toward one another online, the boxer became the center of a slew of diss tracks between Remy and Papoose, with Pap releasing “Jezebel” about his estranged wife.
