Trump TV goes live as Trump administration battles news outlets over White House access

The new 24-hour video stream comes days after the administration barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico from White House access.

The White House has launched a new 24-hour video stream branded Trump TV, putting the administration’s own programming platform at the center of an escalating dispute over press access.

The channel, titled “TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station,” went live on YouTube Monday evening. The Hill reported that its first broadcast featured footage of President Donald Trump speaking at Mount Rushmore during a July 3 event. The White House has also incorporated the stream into its website.

The administration describes the service as a way to bring presidential remarks, major announcements and other administration highlights together in one place. A White House post promoting the launch said the stream would be updated in real time.

The rollout came days after Trump barred journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House. Trump said the decision followed what he described as repeated “fake news” coverage. The White House has defended the move by arguing that press access is a privilege rather than a guaranteed right.

The timing has drawn criticism from media organizations and political opponents. California Gov. Gavin Newsom described the new channel as “state-run TV” in a post on X, linking the launch to the administration’s restrictions on independent news organizations.

The dispute has also moved into federal court. CNN, MS NOW and Politico filed a lawsuit Monday challenging their exclusion, arguing that the administration’s action violates First Amendment protections. The White House has rejected that characterization and maintains that the outlets remain free to publish their reporting even without White House credentials.

It remains unclear how much live programming Trump TV will eventually carry. The White House’s video library now prominently features the new Trump TV material alongside recordings of presidential events, speeches and administration announcements.

The launch also follows a broader disruption in the traditional White House television press pool. Major networks have withheld coverage in response to CNN’s exclusion, adding another layer to the ongoing dispute over who controls access to presidential events and how those events reach the public.

Trump TV therefore arrives as both a new government communications channel and a product of a larger fight over White House media access. The pending lawsuit could determine how far the administration can go in controlling which news organizations receive access to the president.
