Sister Betsy Jean Farrakhan, eldest daughter of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, has died after decades of service to the organization and its agricultural work.

Sister Betsy Jean Farrakhan, the eldest daughter of Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan and the late Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, has died.

News of her death began circulating through tributes from members and supporters of the Nation of Islam before the organization acknowledged her passing. Texas Metro News reported on the developing story, noting that the organization had not initially issued a formal public announcement as tributes appeared across social media.

The Nation of Islam subsequently shared a tribute identifying Sister Betsy Jean as Louis Farrakhan’s eldest child and announcing that she had “returned to Allah.”

Much of Sister Betsy Jean’s work centered on service within the organization, including agriculture. Her contributions to farming were formally recognized by the Nation of Islam’s Ministry of Agriculture in 2016, when she received its first Farmer of the Year honor.

The Final Call reported that her work included farming in New Buffalo, Michigan, encouraging young people to pursue agriculture and organizing the organization’s first Michigan Farm-Agriculture Workshop in 2015.

Her agricultural work remained part of her legacy. At the Nation of Islam’s 2026 awards banquet, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award, with The Final Call highlighting both her leadership within the organization and her work in sustainable agriculture.

Sister Betsy Jean also held leadership responsibilities within the Nation of Islam’s Muslim Girls Training and General Civilization Class, according to recent tributes. Her work placed her in several areas of the organization’s community and educational activities.

Her death comes less than three months after the passing of her mother, Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, who died June 27 at age 90. Mother Khadijah was survived by her husband and seven children, including Betsy Jean.

The circumstances and cause of Sister Betsy Jean Farrakhan’s death have not been publicly disclosed. Her passing marks another significant loss for the Farrakhan family and the Nation of Islam, where her decades of organizational service and commitment to agriculture had become a defining part of her public legacy.
