Lance Bass is lifting the lid on life in NSYNC, and the money wasn’t matching the megastardom.
The singer says the group’s early success came with a daily allowance of just $35. Now, he’s unpacking the financial reality alongside talk of a reunion and his experience of being closeted in one of Pop’s biggest boy bands.

Speaking on ‘The Zach Sang Show,’ the 47-year-old recalled waiting years for a substantial payment despite the group’s hit albums, packed concerts and booming merchandise business.
“Our first check was a $10,000 check after years of number one albums, sellout tours.”
Bass described those early years as effectively working for free. And while residuals still arrive, he pushed back on the assumption that his boy-band tenure left him fabulously wealthy.
His frustration also extends to the adults around the group, whom he felt failed to protect their interests or prepare them financially for the future.
Naturally, the conversation also turned to the question that keeps following the quintet: a reunion.
The group reunited on record for ‘Better Place’ in 2023. A full-scale comeback, however, has remained a separate conversation. Back in April, Joey Fatone said he didn’t see anything happening in the near future, explaining that not everyone was ready.
Watch Bass tackle the reunion topic below:
Beyond the business, Bass opened up about growing up gay in Mississippi and keeping his sexuality private throughout his boy-band years.
Discussing life in the closet, secret relationships and his journey toward coming out, he offered another perspective on what audiences didn’t see behind NSYNC’s polished Pop image.
