Kanye West and Travis Scott will not perform in Italy this summer. Local authorities have officially cancelled their shows.

The back-to-back festival headlining sets were scheduled for July at the RCF Arena in Reggio Emilia. West was set to headline the Pulse of Gaia festival on July 18. Scott was scheduled to perform the day before.

Authorities cited security concerns and large expected crowds as key factors. However, West’s past antisemitic remarks also played a role.

“The overall assessment took into account the cancellation of previous concerts by the American rapper in other countries,” representatives for Reggio Emilia’s government said in a statement.

Earlier this year, West was barred from entering the United Kingdom following widespread backlash over his comments. He has also faced cancellations in New Delhi.

Scott’s own concert history contributed to the scrutiny. A crowd crush at his Astroworld festival in Houston in 2021 killed 10 people and injured thousands more.

The cancellations come despite West’s recent efforts to repair relationships with the Jewish community. He publicly apologized earlier this year and has since met with Jewish leaders.

Neither West nor Scott has publicly commented on the cancellation. Neither date currently appears on the festival’s website.
