Issa Rae & Co.’s ‘Insecure’ anniversary tour won’t happen, but there’s a good reason behind it

“We’re all so bummed,” showrunner Prentice Penny said as cast members slowly revealed what happened to seeing them on the road this fall.

Fans of Issa Rae‘s hit HBO series “Insecure” were looking forward to celebrating the landmark series’ 10th anniversary this year with a tour. However, the tour sadly isn’t happening.

In a video uploaded to Instagram, Issa, along with “Insecure” alum Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell and showrunner Prentice Penny, tried to hold off on the bad news for as long as possible until Rothwell had to carry the crew the same way she “carried the show for five seasons.”

“The tour ain’t happening, y’all,” Rothwell said. “I’m so sorry.”

However, Penny did reveal that the show would still hold a 10-year anniversary show where it all started in Inglewood on October 8, before elaborating on why a full tour wouldn’t be taking place.

“Everybody started working, which is good,” Penny said.

Issa added, “Unfortunately, our schedules got messed up, and we are so sorry, but we only wanted to do this if we all could be there and give you the best experience possible.”

The multi-hyphenate reiterated in her caption that all refunds would be honored and expressed gratitude that fans still want to celebrate the show.

The tour was announced earlier this year and was set to be a 13-date, multi-city jaunt across the country. However, with Ellis filming “The Rookie: North” and Issa and Penny preparing to bring a new HBO show to life about male friendships and making it big in Las Vegas, managing a tour became less feasible than previously considered.

Still, Issa & Co. are more than thankful for the five seasons they gave fans, from memorable moments on the show to needle drops from Solange Knowles and Kier Lehman. On X last year, Knowles called serving as co-music supervisor for the show a “dream job.”
