Koran Irvine, 46, leaves behind a wife and two children. A GoFundMe set up to assist his family with funeral costs and support has already reached over $100,000.
A retired New York Police Department officer is currently behind bars and charged with murder after a road rage incident on the George Washington Bridge.
62-year-old Victor Romero was charged with murder in the shooting death of 46-year-old Koran Irvine. Authorities responded to a call of a man found unconscious on the driver side of the vehicle as it was headed toward the New Jersey-side of the bridge. According to investigators, Irvine was shot in the right shoulder and the bullet traveled, exiting out the left side of his neck.
Irvine was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.
“Koran was a man full of life, love, and dedication to the people who meant the most to him,” a statement shared on a GoFundMe established for his funeral costs reads. “His family was his world, and he worked hard every day to provide for and support his wife, Patricia, and their children, Lea and Hiro. He loved deeply, valued his relationships, and always strived to give his family the best life possible.”
Con Edison, where Irvine was an employee, called his death a “senseless act of violence.”
“Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew and loved him,” the company said.
Romero retired from the NYPD in 2001 after he was shot in the hand and chest following an off-duty shootout with an individual who was attempting to rob his family’s laundromat in June 2000. He was a member of the force for six years and worked as a drug detective in Brooklyn, according to the New York Post.
Irvine leaves behind a wife and two children. Since its launch, the GoFundMe established to help with funeral costs has already exceeded $100,000 in donations.
“As Patricia, Lea, and Hiro face this heartbreaking loss, we are asking for your support to help ease the financial burden during this incredibly difficult time,” the GoFundMe reads. “The funds raised will go toward funeral and memorial expenses, household bills, daily living expenses, and the ongoing needs of Lea and Hiro as Patricia navigates this devastating new reality.”
“No amount of money can replace Koran or take away the pain of losing a husband, father, and friend,” the GoFundMe continues. “However, coming together as a community can help provide Patricia and her children with stability, comfort, and peace of mind as they begin to navigate life without him. Any contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a meaningful difference and is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Patricia, Lea, and Hiro in your thoughts and prayers.”
