UK rapper Ghetts has been sentenced to over a decade in prison after causing a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 20-year-old student Yubin Tamang. Full story below…

The MC (born Justin Clarke-Samuel previously pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after his BMW M5 struck Tamang as he crossed Redbridge Lane on October 18.

The court heard he was driving at up to 74mph in a 30mph zone shortly before impact.

Tamang, who had moved from Nepal to the UK to study, died in hospital two days later.

CCTV presented in court showed what the judge described as a “quite appalling litany of incidents” leading up to the crash.

Prosecutors said the vehicle hit the student at 67mph before Clarke-Samuel failed to stop, later driving eight miles home. Evidence revealed he consumed alcohol and a cannabis edible before his arrest hours later.

Through his defence, the father of two shared a letter addressed to the victim’s family.

“I write from a place of extreme regret, shame and remorse… I cannot express the enormous feeling of guilt and shame for the suffering I have caused. I want Mr Tamang’s family to know that I am so truly sorry. I offer no excuses, and I have let my family and community down.”

Tamang’s parents said their “hearts [are] broken beyond repair,” adding they can never forgive the man they say stole their only child’s future.

The 41-year-old artist, who has been behind bars since October, was also disqualified from driving for 17 years following the deadly collision in Ilford, London.
