Erykah Badu and The Alchemist release new single ‘Witch Doctor,’ announce album release date

After more than a year of delays, the Grammy-winning singer and acclaimed producer have finally revealed when their long-awaited collaborative album will arrive.

After more than a year of anticipation, delays and teases, Erykah Badu and The Alchemist have officially locked in a release date for their long-awaited collaborative album.

On Thursday, the neo-soul icon and acclaimed hip-hop producer surprised fans with the release of “Witch Doctor,” the latest single from their upcoming joint project, while revealing that the 16-track album will arrive Aug. 28. In true Badu fashion, however, there’s still one lingering mystery: the album doesn’t have an official title.

According to Pitchfork reports, the project is currently listed on Bandcamp as “Sorry, we don’t have an album title yet …” after previously being referred to as “Abi & Alan.”

The album has been years in the making. Badu first revealed she was working with The Alchemist in 2025, later releasing the lead single “Next to You” ahead of what was initially expected to be a summer 2025 release. When that date came and went, fans were left wondering when, or if, the project would finally arrive.

Now, the wait appears to be over.

Recorded over an 18-month period in Dallas and Los Angeles, the collaborative effort marks Badu’s first full-length studio album in more than a decade and her first official studio LP since 2010’s “New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh).”

The release announcement arrives just weeks before Badu and The Alchemist embark on a North American tour together, where they’ll bring the new music to audiences across the country. The tour kicks off in September and includes stops in Chicago, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles and several other cities, with select dates featuring special guests including De La Soul and Smino.
