In a revealing new interview with V Magazine, Doja dished on her upcoming album ‘Vie,’ calling it unapologetically “Pop-driven.”
“I do want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a Pop-driven project.
I know that I can make Pop music, and Pop is just that , it’s popular.”
But while she’s leaning into catchy, radio-friendly sounds, she insists that the chase for chart-topping hits isn’t driving her anymore.
“What I want to avoid is that little monster that just wants success. I want to focus more on: how does the mix sound? Do I even need these instruments here? Do I need to recut this verse? It’s how things sound that makes the music worth listening to. If for any reason a project of mine does a little less good than the last one, I don’t want to be up in arms. I want to embrace that.”
Sonically, Vie is set to tap into a retro aesthetic, while lyrically it dives deep into themes of love, sex, and messy relationships, including the complicated ones we have with ourselves.
“The concept is very pointed towards love, romance, and sex and discourse in relationships. Really just relationships in general, and relationships with yourself, even.”
As for how it stands out in today’s breakup-heavy music landscape?
“I think right now, you hear a lot of songs about breakups, and how we’re just kind of sick of men.”

It looks like Doja is not just making hits, she’s crafting something that resonates on her terms.
