Keyshia Cole‘s 2005 debut album ‘The Way It Is‘ is ranked by many-a-music lover and critic among the greatest R&B bodies of work produced this century – and rightfully so.
Home to hits ‘I Changed My Mind,’ ‘I Just Want It to Be Over,’ ‘I Should’ve Cheated,’ and her signature smash ‘Love,’ the now-Platinum project put Cole on the map for filling a Hip-Hop/Soul fusion void that had been largely missing from her generation at the time and still being mostly carried by the subgenre’s forerunner Mary J. Blige.
But, if a quote from Cardi B‘s latest headline-grabbing chat with ‘New York Times’ is anything to judge by, limiting Keyshia’s ‘Way’ to being among the best of the millennium is selling it way too short.
In addition to her scorching feature in the recent edition of ‘T Magazine‘ – the luxury style and culture corner of ‘The New York Times’ publication family – Cardi also lifted some content to the brand’s website.
Contributing to the mag’s “Greats” video segment, the GRAMMY-winning Rap diva ran through a list of her own “greatest of all time” selections including food, movies, and more.
When quizzed on which album should rank above every other, her answer was quite surprising.
“Keyshia Cole: ‘The Way It Is,'” she said proudly before explaining, “I was listening to that album when I was, like, 13, and I’m still listening to it when I’m 33. Every woman should listen to that album.”
At writing, Cole has not responded to the high praise.
The news comes as the latest in a Cardi-filled week as she continues to garner her own rounds of adulation for her banging set in the latest edition of NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk.’
