The boxing champion said Papoose has filed for divorce and pushed back on criticism of their relationship.
Claressa Shields is pushing back on any narrative that describes her partner Papoose as “somebody’s husband,” saying the rapper has filed for divorce from Remy Ma and is committed to their relationship.
Yahoo Entertainment reported that Shields addressed the issue during a July 30 appearance on Atlanta’s “The Streetz Morning Takeover.” Co-host Mz Shyneka asked how long the boxing champion was willing to remain in a relationship with “somebody’s husband.”
“That’s not somebody’s husband,” Shields replied. She said Papoose filed for divorce because he is serious about her and argued that the same standard should be applied to Remy Ma while the marriage remains legally unresolved.
Shields acknowledged that the pending divorce is not complete. She said divorce takes time and described Papoose as going through the process, rather than remaining committed to his marriage.
The exchange follows continued public debate about when Shields and Papoose began dating. Remy Ma accused the pair of becoming involved while she and Papoose were still together. Papoose responded by accusing Remy Ma of infidelity. Both sides have aired competing claims through interviews and social media posts.
Papoose filed for divorce in May 2025, according to previous reports. He and Remy Ma exchanged vows while she was incarcerated in 2008 and later held a televised ceremony in 2016. They share a daughter, Reminisce Mackenzie, born in 2018.
Shields and Papoose publicly confirmed their relationship in late 2024. The boxer has since spoken about viewing him as husband material, while making clear that they are not yet married.
