Byron Allen is officially in the Gold Circle.
On Friday, Oct. 30, during the 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards held at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, Allen was among several television veterans honored for their contributions to the industry.
“Byron Allen was honored this week with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences GOLD CIRCLE medallion for his past and ongoing contributions to the medium,” began the caption of a post on Allen Media Group’s Instagram congratulating him.
“Allen has spent 50 years entertaining, hosting, producing, and building his ALLEN MEDIA GROUP,” the caption continued. “From his humble beginnings as an 18 year old stand up act on the TONIGHT SHOW Starring JOHNNY CARSON to owning the largest, private, black-owned content, media & technology company in the United States.”
The comedian-turned-media mogul and founder of Allen Media Group was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Gold Circle Society, which recognizes television professionals and the distinguished contributions they’ve made to the industry for 50 years. He was honored alongside Patrika Darbo, Francesca James, and television host Meredith Vieira, per the Hollywood Reporter. And that wasn’t the only cause for celebration of the evening for Allen, which was also somewhat of a family affair.
His nationally syndicated courtroom series, “Justice for the People with Judge Milian,” also won the Emmy for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Series, beating out fellow nominees “Caught in Providence,” “Divorce Court,” and another Allen Media Group production, “Mathis Court with Judge Mathis.”
The now Emmy award-winning series, which stars Judge Marilyn Milian, formerly of “The People’s Court,” is executive produced by Allen alongside his mother Carolyn Folks, Jennifer Lucas, and Patricia J. Wilson. Folks, who appeared at the awards ceremony in a burgundy gown, and Allen posed together in a sweet mother-and-son picture after the big wins. Allen has often told the story of how Folks made the ambitious decision to leave Detroit as a young single mother, and secure an internship that previously didn’t exist at NBC Studios, that directly impacted his entire career trajectory.
Today Allen and his entire family get to celebrate in a truly full circle moment.
